| Spent the weekend hanging out with the 'rents (which is funny, since I never refer to them as "the 'rents", except in writing), which gives me a nice excuse for not getting anything done this weekend (except a frantic room tidying on Saturday morning which was all for naught since we didn't visit the apartment anyway).
This tied in with a Facebook conversation I had with a friend overseas tonight (while simultaneously Skyping with my sister in Japan - LOVE technology) about the role of parents supporting kids after graduation, especially during a year of service when pay is minimal. Any thoughts out there from cyber world?
This ties in with brunch today, where, having had similar conversations with other friends, I decided that I ought to thank my parents for having let me wander overseas and throughout the States for, um, five years of service following college. To which my mom half-smirked and (lovingly) said "well, we couldn't have stopped you if we wanted to."
Good point (though I felt that, if I thanked them, they'd at least think they had some control. Which, they're right, they didn't)
Funny, related quote from a co-worker: "Well, you're going to get a free meal out of it (spending the weekend with your parents), right?" |
